For its brand a new GLB-class compact cross-over is announced by Mercedes-Benz pricing at 37,595 dollars and is specifically aiming at the BMW, Lexus and, indeed, even Mercedes-Benz competition itself. The GLB provides an optional third seating column, which is a feature which is neither BMW’s X1 nor Lexus NX.
A GLB with two rows of seating and five rooms is available for $37.595. The single option of engine is a 2.0-liter inline four turbot-charged engine with a power of 221 and a torque of 258 lb. The only transmission is a new8-speed dual-clutch drive; standard front-wheel drive and optional4-wheel drive with $2000 to charge.
Outside, there are regular LED headlamps and 18 “tires. Inside is a 7.0-inch electronic gage cluster with the new Benz infotainment system MBUX featuring a 7.0-inch voice control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. There is a wide range of features available. Active safety features such as brake assistance, automatic emergency braking, attention assistance and crosswind assistance provide regular driver support software. The optional kit ($2250) for Driver Assistance allows half independent driving.
So how do you equate the GLB class with their competition? At $36,195, the $1,400 cheaper BMW X1 offers a4-cylinder 228-hp and front-wheel drive, but a 1400-dollar improvement over the GLB-class of 4Matic. With a more powerous (245 horsepower) engine but less gears in the transmission (6), the Lexus NX300 costs just $150 more than the GLB-class. The NX model of all-wheeled drive is $450 cheaper than the four-wheel drive GLB.
As they estimate, pricing of the GLB varies from the GLA to the GLC. The starting price for the GLA-class is $35,245, while the GLC-class is priced at $43,495. Nonetheless, neither of these two give a third seat line. The Honda Pilot ($32,645) has spacious space for eights as well as Chevrolet Traverse ($30,995), whereas the Volkswagen Atlas ($31,890 on a 2019 model; cost not available in 2020) has a room for seven alternatives, which are a little more extensive than the other. By late 2019, the GLB class is on sale.
